Ruislip Rangers U11A won the Milton 11-a-side summer tournament on Sunday 10 July with an outstanding display, scoring 20 goals and conceding none during 6 thrilling 12 minute games played on a full size pitch.
Travelling to just outside Oxford Ruislip Rangers U11A began the tournament with a tough match against Great Linford who had travelled down from Milton Keynes where they are one of the strongest teams in Milton Keynes & Border Counties Football League. The opening goal came half way through the game from Alex Rose-Senior who, on his debut, showed great composure to pass the ball home after a terrific burst of speed. Ruislip eventually won the game 2-0. Another fine finish Rose-Senior, as well as a terrific goal from another new attacking player, Luke Cooley, put Ruislip 2-0 up in the next game before Isaac Maunder wrapped up what was eventually an easy win.
Further wins consolidated first place in the group before Ruislip put on the performance of the day in a storming 7-0 win in the semi-finals. In a game in which Ruislip played some breath-taking passing football, old hand Billy Grimmel got the scoreboard moving as he rounded two terrific team moves with neat finishes. Seb Walsh and Jay O'Connell played a key role in furthers moves which saw midfielder Malachy McGovern powering home a pair of headers from open play as Rangers turned on the style. But the goal of the day was scored by Greg Williams following a mazy run in which he jinked past two opponents before thundering the ball into the top corner from twenty yards.
Ruislip Rangers played the home side Milton United U11 in the final. Roared on by lively home supporters, Milton opened with purpose but couldn't get through the Ruislip defence where captain Ryan Kirwan, central defender Harvie Gardner and full-back Jordan Astle were in outstanding form. However, the game turned when Sam Drake put Luke Cooley through with a beautiful 20 yard pass off his left foot. Luke calmly rounded the keeper to give the lead to Ruislip. Moments later, the strong-running McGovern volleyed home from the edge of the box to seal a well-deserved tournament win.
Ruislip Rangers: Ben Stone, Jack Wallis, Isaac Maunder, Ryan Kirwan, Greg Williams, Jordan Astle, Harvie Gardner, Seb Walsh, Sam Drake, Malachy McGovern, Jay O'Connell, Anish Rajani, Billy Grimmel, Luke Cooley, Alex Rose-Senior.

 (2).jpg)
The final, against Maidenhead Colts (last year's U10 winners), was a very exciting encounter even though it ended scoreless. Ruislip played with a brave attacking formation leaving the outstanding Ryan Kirwan to play at the back on his own. Ruislip dominated the play and created a number of good chances before a lightening counterattack from Maidenhead forced goalkeeper, and captain, Ben Stone to make his first meaningful save of the tournament. It was also an outstanding stop with the keeper diving bravely at the feet of an attacker.
Ruislip then created further chances as the midfield unit of Greg Williams, Malachy McGovern and Sam Drake simply overpowered their opponents. Another rare break from Maidenhead drew the best from defender Ryan Kirwan before Jono Barry, Seb Walsh and Billy Grimmel cut more holes in the Maidenhead defence but couldn't get past Maidenhead's giant keeper. The game ended with Ruislip on the attack.
The penalty shootout was a tense affair, especially as Ruislip felt they should have won a game they dominated. Jono Barry and Seb Walsh calmly slotted home their kicks before goalkeeper Ben Stone pulled off a brilliant one-handed save to set up Ruislip with a chance to win in the best-of-three shootout. Malachy McGovern stroked home the decisive kick before getting swallowed up in wild scenes of jubilation.
On their way to the final, Ruislip topped their group beating Greenmeadow Youth 1-0 in the decisive group match. They were then emphatic 2-0 winners over Caversham Eagles in the semi-final.
